Hunter Wine Country
Wind your way through Hunter Wine Country, just a couple of hours northwest of Sydney And drink it all in.
Hunter Valley Wine Country is a mecca for food and wine enthusiasts. Explore the wineries by horse-drawn carriage, hot air balloon or bicycle.
There is so much to do in the Valley that it is hard to know where to start. Exciting wineries and cellar doors have been joined by a fantastic spread of shops restaurants and attractions making it the most visited wine region in Australia.
There are speciality cheese makers, breweries, and entire olive oil industry, art galleries, display gardens and more cellar doors than you can shake a corkscrew at, not to mention excellent places to stay.
There's also hot air ballooning, major concerts, annual food, wine and music festivals. They have all helped tattoo the Hunter Valley name into the public mind and time is a brilliant time to visit.
But above all, people come for the wine. The only challenge: where to begin!
Since the mid 1800’s, vines have been maturing under the southern sun in the Hunter Valley, enriched by the fertile soils and healthy rains.
Since those early days, the valley’s wine making industry has flourished with over 100 wineries and cellar doors.
Taste the new generation wines like Verdelho and Chambourcin, or savour the latest vintage of classic Hunter varieties like Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz.
There is something special about tasting wine from whence it came, from the first budburst to the final fermentation, a cycle of life is celebrated with every glass sipped, every bottle uncorked.
Wineries
Hunter wines are renowned all over the world and you can taste the best of them – everything from Champagnes, Semillons and Chardonnays to Shiraz, Merlots and Cabernet Sauvignons – at any of the wineries' cellar doors. Drop in for a tasting and a chat. Or take a vineyard tour – McWilliams, Hunter Estate, Tyrrells, Rothbury Estate and Hungerford Hill all have them.
