Woodside: Where To Go / Sightseeing

Tenterfield Railway Museum

Tenterfield Station opened in 1886 and was the last station built on the Sydney to Brisbane railway line. For 103 years, Tenterfield Station made history - playing host to the full range of trains from yesteryear to the XPT. Today, many of the original operational facilities are still in working condition, allowing the station to transform itself into a railway museum with a collection of well-preserved railway artefacts. Guided tours will take you through exhibitions in all rooms of the building, and passionate volunteers can talk you through the many exciting eras of railway, making you feel part of the operation.

A market is held in the railway station car park on the first Saturday of February, April, June, August, October and December starting 8am.

Sir Henry Parkes Memorial School Of Arts Tenterfield

Sir Henry Parkes "The Father of Federation" stood on the site that would become The National Trust's first museum where in October, 1889 he delivered a speech that in the words of Sir Robert Garran; "turned a vague ideal into a practical working program for Federation".

The property not only stands to commemorate the memory of one of Australia's great statesmen but to provide a centre of interest to perpetuate the meaning and purpose of Federation. The property itself was founded as a working man's institute in the 1870s. Its lifetime and associated events have earned it the title as 'birthplace of the nation'. Architecturally the School of Arts is a prominent building reflecting the society and era, comprising of many styles ranging from its gothic outline to the Edwardian addition of 1913.

Tenterfield Saddler

The Tenterfield Saddler was made famous by Peter Allen's tribute to his past, and grandfather George Woolnough in the 'Tenterfield Saddler'.

However it is much more than just a song. For 50 years (from 1908 - 1960), this quaint blue-granite saddlery on High Street was a key meeting place in town. Saddler George Woolnough plied his trade, listening, undisturbed by the chatter and opinions of those who wandered in. One famous customer was Banjo Patterson.

Since 1860, the building has been used as a bank, private residence, and saddlery.

Classified by the National Trust and in original condition - the old ceilings wear 130 years of tobacco stains, wooden floors are patched in places with scraps of leather, and visitors can see the working conditions of 100 years ago first hand.

Immortalised by Peter Allen's song, 'Tenterfield Saddler', this living museum is full of leather goods and historic tools.

Jack Frost

*** Latest event details are yet to be confirmed ***
The Jack Frost Story.

Jack Frost took his paintbrush as he sailed across the sky, so every morning as the sun comes up, his artwork greets the eye, there's reds and golds and yellows, all of a breath taking view, but no matter how hard he tries, he can never make leaves turn blue, so when you're in bed sleeping and outside everything seems faint, just remember at midnight Jack Frost begins to paint.

Celebrate all that Tenterfield has to offer in the winter months with Jack Frost Time.

Business houses in Tenterfield decorate their shop fronts and there is a competition for the best shop front. Visit Tenterfield this winter and join in the fun!
